I
think the results speak for themselves, the GP and Drag
Strip competitions were closely fought with some nail
biting finishes and whilst the Drift competition didn't
work out as planned the event really showed off the sport
in a great environment. Donington Park were fantastic
hosts and we really used the whole site to its greatest
benefit, I can only imagine how good the circuit will
be after the extensive building work is completed there
next year.
It's hard being a first event, you never know how many
people will attend and whilst overall gate figures were
lower than we anticipated (just over 5000) the tuning
firm places were full, the effort and skill these companies
dedicated to the competition was superb. Feedback from
all the competitors was overwhelmingly positive with many
booking the same garage for next years event so we consider
that a big pat on the back. All of the tuning firms spent
countless hours preparing their cars and represented the
best in the UK - they did the whole tuning community proud.
As with all motor sport events they can't take place without
the energy and drive of a whole army of helpers and we
were blessed in this respect. Without wanting this to
turn into an Oscar speech (complete with tears) the event
simply couldn't have happened without the help of the
VX220 Owners Club. They turned up, saw no action on the
day, sold tickets and generally got glowered at by me
in a stressed state and performed perfectly. They worked
from 5am until 10pm for no reward other than the enjoyment
of being involved and were fantastic. Special thanks need
to go to my wife (Esme), my father (Paul - who understandably
still isn't talking to me) and to Ian and Leah who put
up with a stressed me and were essential to the event
ever taking place. Thank you all.
2006? Damn right, we've already started planning it! The
event was so successful in terms of format and design
that we believe it can only get better. We'll be doing
some changes in format a little, changing the classes,
raising the noise limit to 110db and generally learning
from this years event to ensure 2006 is even bigger. The
response from the tuning firms was so overwhelmingly positive
that next year we believe the event will have at least
50% more teams. We hope to see you there.
